Many find radiation scary, especially when it is associated with a nuclear power station, despite the fact that there is no difference between natural radiation and ‘man-made’ radiation. Life itself emerged at a time when the planet was much more radioactive than it is today, and all living organisms have evolved in ways to be able to coexist with radiation. Sleeping next to someone gives us a much higher radiation dose than living close to a nuclear power station – both of which are harmless. It’s even in our bodies naturally occurring radioactive elements in our bones irradiate us on average 5000 times per second. Radiation is natural and found everywhere – it comes from outer space, the air we breathe, and the earth we tread.
Radiation is often misunderstood, but helps to save lives and cure disease.
Radiation occurs naturally and comes from sources all around us, including our own bodies.
